The Story
Bill's 1,000 Well Dream
Bill and Beth Murphy, along with Bill's sister, Mary Beth Sena, started a Non-Profit 501(c)3 organization in 2002 called Abraham's Blessings Intl. after going on a mission trip to Kenya in 2001. They were burdened by the lack of clean drinking water and the extreme poverty of so many people there. Bill's dream was to dig 1,000 clean water wells so that thousands of people would have access to freshwater for their families.
Bill passed away in June 2018 from GBM brain cancer before he could see those 1,000 wells dug. Bill's dream lives on through the generous donations of friends, family, and generous donors like you. Help us fulfill Bill's dream to bring water to a dry and weary land.
You can make a difference!
Water is life or MAJI NI UHAI in Swahili is a common phrase in Kenya. Over 5,000 children die every day worldwide because of drinking dirty water. Many of them live in sub-Saharan Africa.
You can help save lives. We turn on the faucet and get water. It's easy to take something so readily available where we live for granted. Without access to clean water wells, women and children must walk to rivers to get water in rural Kenya. Sometimes they walk miles each way just to get water.
Getting water from creeks and rivers is fraught with danger. These water sources are shared with animals, contaminated by chemicals, and filled with bacteria and disease. Women and children often risk assault just to get water to drink, cook, and bathe.
Many are harmed at the creeks and rivers getting water. With clean water, thousands of children can now stay in school and learn and stay healthier. They now have hopes and dreams of a promising future.
A hand dug well costs about $3,500 and a drilled well costs about $7,000. Each well serves as many as 2,000 people.
